PICO Kids engages children in STEEM, Entrepreneurship and Creativity, planting seeds for future success and bringing a diverse city together through passion for science and technology.
PICO Kids’ mission is to enrich and strengthen STEEM education (Science Technology Engineering Entrepreneurship & Math) in Jerusalem, using creative and experiential learning both in schools and in after-school programs. PICO Kids participants are exposed to a broad range of subjects, conduct experiments with scientists from the Hebrew University and engage with inspiring entrepreneurs. These activities spark their curiosity around the world of science and the environment provides a platform for freethinking and creative expression. Beyond its academic content, PICO Kids believes in educating children to think outside of the box, in developing their research and presentation skills and in building a social awareness to the world around them. Participants hail from all over Jerusalem, across different demographics, and learn together in a fun, informal atmosphere. The PICO Kids experience aims to shape their view of the world of science and technology before they are faced with the choice of their high school electives.
PICO Kids believes in and is committed to an uncompromising level of excellence in education. Every detail of the curriculum is carefully planned, and much thought is put into the curation process. PICO Kids believes in leveraging Jerusalem’s existing assets in order to maximize the quality of its activities. A SELECTION OF PICO KIDS PROGRAMS:
Science Encounters Teenagers grades 7-9 th participate in programming delivered by Noar Shocher Mada, Machshava Tova and independent entrepreneurs and scientists. Participants build and fire rockets, produce their own DNA map, operate on animals parts, create TED-like talks and more.
3D Printing PICO Kids has incorporated 3D printing technology in many of its programs, as it has been recognized globally to elevate the learning experience in a broad range of subjects, beyond technology, and is a growing trend in schools all over the world. PICO Kids equipped FabLab at Hansen House with printers, as well as a number of schools, and invested in training local teachers and instructors.
Robotics Robotics is an educational tool that gives expression to students’ creativity. As such, PICO Kids established a robotics and 3D printing lab at Seligsberg. In addition, it recognized the FLL, an international robotics competition, as an opportunity to get involved in a valuable learning experience and initiated the integration of the program into a growingnumber of local schools.
Academia in the Classroom PICO Kids orchestrates meetings for middle school students and scientists from the Hebrew University to engage in joint lab experiments. The unique experiential process of learning compliments their traditional classroom environment.
